Pattern Lines Developing to Sell

We are a small shop and are only able to costume a limited number of dolls per year for the sheer enjoyment of it. Because we are creative, once we work on one doll, have tracked down the fabric, developed the costume idea, we tend to finish it forever and then move on to a new doll challenge.

This has led us to think about developing PDF "Epatterns" sold virtually on the web for certain easily restorable dolls from the 60's and 70's which we played with (so we are biased) wiith mass appeal. Stay tuned to patterns we will offer for sale here for more modern doll rehabbers who would like to try their hand at doll costuming.

Original Doll Costume Design

This antique German porcelain doll (we think it is a Heinrich Handwerk) needed some simple eye work and had some undergarments but no formal gown. After digging through the doll owner's drawer of sentimental family linens, treating them with a linen restorer to get the hues of the various laces, linens and tatting to match, we came up with this costume design and were very pleased with the results. We used a wedding cake style of embellishment: laying on layers of lace to create the right effect.

Shabby Chic is out -- Let us Costume Your Doll!

Most of our dolls who arrive in our shop are past "display quality" with not much in the way of clothing because it has either been lost over the years, loved off the doll, or is in full scale dry rot. This is the part we most enjoy as we love bringing a neglected doll back to life with a spiffy new wardrobe. We will let you know if we think you should keep a doll costumed as it is or move her to a new station in life. But the final decision is always left up to the owner.

Our clients we work with usually ask us to come up with a costume idea based on exactly what they remember the doll used to wear or something comparable to the period. We can go either way. We will send you a proposed idea based on our historical doll research and usually give you two or three costume and fabric options and full pricing disclosure up front. We can completely handsew an outfit for historical accuracy or machine sew a quick costume for budget conscious collectors.

We never have exceeded a bid and we always check with our clients in regard to changes or surprises from suppliers on accessory or wig pricing. We are sure you will be pleased with your doll's costume and will strive to make her just right for you.
